Re: Characters
You know what? I'm listing a bunch of characters here. If you're too lazy to make a character yourself and/or feel you don't have the time to create one, this post will be for you. I'm going to make a series of characters that are open for use, each in their own spoiler to save space.
- Leafhead:
- Leafhead
Construct, Explorer
(5 HP, 2 Def, 1 Dam)
A distinctly formal construct who devoted his life to exploring the world as it changed around him. Is especially interested in the extremes societies around the world have created. Is precise to an extreme, and feels that if he can't do something, he simply hasn't figured out how yet. Is partially responsible for setting the tail of Dogal the Red Dragon on fire four years ago.
Skills: Acrobatics, A Firsthand Knowledge of World History, Close Combat
Equipment: Leather Jacket [+0 Def], Machete [+0 Dam], Rope
- Mek-Nob:
- Mek-Nob
Orc/Construct, Scrappy, Industrious
(5 HP, 1 Def, 1 Dam)
Didn't I tell you about the time I ran into Mek-Nob in a bar? Man, that was intense. So here's the story. I'm drinking in the Inn of Ill-omen, right? and suddenly, this orc with a metal arm slams open the door. I didn't see how much of the guy was machine, but his other arm certainly wasn't. Anyway, this orc slams the door open, walks straight to the bar, sits next to me, and orders a Full Dwarven Whiskey.
So outside of the loud entrance and the metal arm, hey, he's a normal guy. So I relax a bit, turn to him to start a conversation when I notice a drunk with a warhammer starting to take a swing at him. Before I get the chance to warn him, his arm seems to reach back on its own, catches the hammer, and throws it right back into the drunk. I'm sitting here, staring at this orc who just caught a god damned warhammer, when he turns to the guy and says "If ya want to fight me, face me. Name's Mek-Boy, yours?"
The drunk's scared shitless, he's just this tiny little dwarf, and he just caught his own warhammer in his gut, and the guy who threw it didn't seem to notice what he did beforehand. He panics, grabs his hammer again, throws it at Mek-Boy's head, and the orc just leans back and dodges it, letting it hit the bartender straight in the chest. The look on the drunk's face was priceless, he starts screaming, and runs out. Mek-Boy turns to me and says "What's up with him? He embarassed about his name of something?"
Yeah, he's that kinda guy.
Quality: Relaxed
Skills: Mechanically enhanced reflexes, Combat theory, Repair
Equipment: Leather Vest [+0 Def], Mechanical Arm (Plate Gauntlet)[+1 Dam]
- Mekal Colaren:
- Mekal Colaren
Dwarf, Mechanic
(5 HP,0 Def,1 Dam)
You know the phrase "When all you have is a hammer"? Mekal Colaren redefines it. He wields an extremely customized battlehammer that he works on in his spare time. At the point of writing, it is capable of doing close to anything from picking locks to opening crates to assisting in diplomacy. However, the sheer amount of money he invested in the weapon left him without enough to buy anything else.
Quality: Single-minded
Skills: Battlehammer Usage, Weapon Design, Diplomacy, Opening Things
Equipment: Basic Clothing [-1 Def], Mekal's Hammer [+2 Dam,-1 Hit], Tool Set (Personal Item)
- Rinor:
- Rinor
Elf, Aloof
(5 HP,2 Def,1 Dam)
A somewhat mysterious ally. Pretty much the absolute worst person to have as a friend, but certainly the greatest ally. His skills in combat are exceptional, as are his skills with stealth. This, plus his tendency to anticipate futre events with ease, mean he's rather hard to defeat in open combat, but he's rather easily tricked, and a well-planned trap could end his life easily as he runs to the aid of an ally.
Quality: Loyal
Skills: Swordsmanship, Fleet-footed, Foresight
Equipment: Saber [+1 Dam,+1 Hit], Leather Armor [+0 Def], Small Heal Potion [+3 HP], Iron Spike
- Rex:
- Rex
Dog, Pet
(3 HP,1 Def,1 Dam)
Rex used to be the most notorious murderer in the town of Glensdale. Some 17 citizens died by his hands over the course of 3 weeks. When he was eventually captured, he was sentenced to spend the remainder of his life as a dog. While he's still a very effective killer, he's much easier to stop - if one can hear him coming. His black coat blends in well with the night, and he's developed techniques to allow him to use a knife in combat. His whereabouts are unknown, but rumors have hinted that he may actually be learning from his sentence, and so is turning his carefully honed skills towards better purposes.
Quality: Flaw: Unable to use armor, Flaw: -2 HP, Cruel
Skills: Stealth, Canine Knife Wielding, Close Combat, Assassination, Hunting
Equipment: Custom Combat Knife [+0], Canine Leather Armor[+0], Rope
- Pablo Agrisso:
- Pablo Agrisso
Dragonkin, Proud
(5 HP,1 Def,0 Dam)
A Rich, well-to-do noble. Grew disfavored by his fellow rich nobles, and thus lost almost all of his fortune, and could use your assistance, just a small donation of 5 Gp, to help him get back on his feet.
In reality, he's a con artist, albeit an exceptionally good one. The issue is that he is well aware of his skills, and as a result is somewhat of a braggart and an egotist. The combination gets him into hot water fairly often, but half the time he's able to get himself out of the messes he creates.
Skills: Deception, Disguise, Sleight-of-hand, Painting
Equipment: Fine Clothing [-1 Def], Shiv [+0 Dam], Wine Bottle [Drunken, 4 turns], Small Beer [Drunken, 2 turns]
- Iris:
- Iris
Ghost, Mournful
(5 HP,1 Def,0 Dam)
Rumor tells of a little girl that wanders the halls of Nailstone's medical center. Patients and nurses have reported seeing a girl with black hair and a dark red dress crying as she walks along the stark hallways. No official search for the girl has turned up anyone. Those who decide to search for her alone are not so lucky. Various corpses have been found strung up in dark corners, their throats slashed open by a sharp knife. The official stance on the matter has been to stay vigilant, don't go anywhere in the center alone, and request assistance if one sees her. This was decided to be good enough. Recently, however, reports of bodies strung up and killed in similar matters have turned up in the streets surrounding
Quality: Etherial
Skills: Stealth, Carving, Playing
Equipment: 7 Knives [+0 Dam,-1 Hit], Dark Red Dress [-1 Def]
- Pharos:
- Pharos the Protector
Halfling, Sorcerer
(5 HP,1 Def,1 Dam)
Necromancy is often frowned upon by polite society. Sometimes because they believe that the dead are sacred. Sometimes because they feel it is a peversion of the natural order of things. They are wrong. I became a necromancer to better understand death, after my father died. And I learned. After death, the spirit simply leaves the body, to do as it will, and while I could certainly object to one bothering a spirit it seems an equal act to the best of my knowledge as one breaking into another's house for the sake of asking them a question. As for the natural order of things, necromantic creatures form fairly often in wild nature, so that claim is nothing more than a simple lack of understanding.
No, I have devoted my life to studying the dead, and in the process I have gained great amounts of knowledge, which I have used to create a small hut a short distance from an elven town. It is there I do my research in peace, as the elves have come to understand that I do not seek power. Although I will admit to a great deal of power at my disposal, I have sworn to protect nature whereever I travel, and I will not falter in my quest for knowledge. When my death comes, I will accept my fate.
That is why I am a necromancer.
Quality: Loves Nature
Skills: Death Magic, Secondhand Historical Trivia, Elven Shepherding Staff Techniques (melee)
Equipment: Knarled Staff [+0 Dam], Leather Cloak [+0 Def]
- Jet:
- Jet
Human, Soldier
(5 HP,2 Def,0 Dam)
A former guardsman in Nailstone. Left because of what he viewed as corruption in the ranks. Found himself living as a bounty hunter, and so far, does a good job of it. Has a small crew he still keeps in touch with every once in a while, but ultimately lives a fairly quiet life, at least as far as bounty hunting gets. Currently is the pilot of the ship he bought, the Bebop, and his skills at cooking are actually fairly well known.
He doesn't like talking about his past, but his past has a nasty habit of biting him in the ass. It's why his right arm is artificial, and why he's an amazing shot.
Quality: Stubborn
Skills: Archery, Piloting, Botany, Accounting, Law
Equipment: Artificial Arm (Leather Gauntlet) [+0 Def], Shortbow [+0 Dam],5xSimple Arrow[+0 Hit]
- Eri:
- Eri
Goblin, Mischievous
(5 HP,0 Def,0 Dam)
A very energetic creature, Eri. She spends as much time as she can finding the most interesting way to get from point A to point B, though she has been known to change her mind as to where point B is on occasion. Such occasions are usually marked by her grabbing a snack from a vendor without bothering to pay for it, and a small croud trying to follow her from the ground. Has a tendency to leave chaos in her wake, but ultimately doesn't especially care either way. She's been to known to save people's lives on a whim as much as she ruins them. She's quite probably one of the luckiest creatures alive.
Quality: Born Lucky
Skills: Acrobatics, Theft, Fleet-Footed, Taunting
Equipment: Leather Gloves [+0 Dam], Clothing [-1 Def], Lockpicks, 3xSmall Haste Potion[Haste, 1 turn]
A Note on how her "Born Lucky" Quality, and similar traits, will be handled. It will only apply to rolls of chance, where the player IS NOT actively attempting something. So it won't help picking a lock, but it might help avoiding the eyesight of someone (The someone is doing the active check).
- Frank Hammer:
- Frank Hammer
Ghost, Etherial
(5 HP,0 Def,0 Dam)
Man, I used to be a cocky little punk. Was trying to be the best bard in the world, doing what I could to make sure people thought I was. Hell, I had the girls fawning over me. And then I got run over by a horse that had panicked. Yeah. I devoted my life to music and fame, and well, you know what? I can still sing and play, I'm just kinda see-through now. I'm stll gonna keep playing, and nothing short of the end of the world's gonna stop me from doing what I can. Hell, these days my music makes magic happen.
Quality: Cheerful
Skills: Stealth, Playing Music, Singing, Speechcraft, Spellsinging
Equipment: Guitar (Personal Item), Casual Clothing [-1 Def], 3xSmall Heal Potion[+3 HP], 3xSmall Poison Potion[Poison, 1 turn], Brass Knuckles[+0 Dam,-1 Hit]
- John:
- John Egbert
Ghost, Etherial
(5 HP,0 Def,2 Dam)
John was a pretty ordinary kid. Liked to do magic tricks, but no talent for the actual art. However, when he was some 13 years old, he began a journey (originally in the context of a game) that changed his life forever. Specifically, it ended it. Soon after his death, he came back to his friend's aid as a ghost, still adventuring.
Quality: Idealist
Skills: Hammerkind Combat, Mangrit, Wind Magic, Dual Wielding
Equipment: Pogo Hammer [+2 Dam], Clothing[-1 Def]
- Rose:
- Rose Lalonde
Halfling, Sorcerer
(5 HP,1 Def,1 Dam)
One of the youngest active sorcerers alive, Rose Lalonde began studying black magic at an early age, and over the course of her life so far, has proven to be exceptional at it. She also happens to enjoy knitting and writing prose. Both of which she has so far managed to weaponize.
It must be stated, that while she is not by any means evil, she does tread the line, and she is willing to rip reality apart to get the knowledge she seeks, with little regard to consequences. That said, she does her best not to, and saves such events for only when she feels it's worthwhile.
Quality: Jaded
Skills: Black Magic, Knitting, Writing
Equipment:Black Robes (leather) [+0], Knitting Needles [+0], 2xSmall Heal Potion[+3 HP]
- Jade:
- Jade
Construct, Explorer
(5 HP,1 Def,0 Dam)
A kindhearted female construct. Seems to be fairly young, but shows an amazing degree of insight as to some of the more odd elements of reality that she seems drawn to. For that matter, she seems drawn from those same fragments, and is often seen with a pet canine creature who may or may not be dangerous, but will protect her in all cases.
Research so far has been inconclusive.
Quality: Silly
Skills: Archery, Improvisation, Summon Pet (Beq)
Equipment: Crossbow[+1 Dam], Fashionable Clothing[-1 Def], Explosive Powder
- Dave:
- Dave
Dragonkin, Flaming Breath
(7 HP,2 Def,0/1 Dam)
Somewhat of an insufferable prick. His choice of weapon is rather odd: he uses a 1/2 sword, that is to say, he uses a sword that was broken in half, which he can make whole by reversing its state in time. Found out he had a degree of control over time, and turned it to his advantage early on. This, in addition to his training as a swordsman, resulted in him being pretty awesome, if not necessarily the MOST awesome. The whole being able to breathe fire thing might help a bit.
Quality: Sarcastic
Skills: Swordsmanship, Time Magic, Fleet-Footed, Restore Weapon(Granted)
Equipment: 1/2 Longsword (Short Sword) [+0 Dam,+1 Dam, Grants Skill Restore Weapon], Leather Armor [+1 Def]
- Karkat:
- Karkat Vantas
Orc, Scrappy
(5 HP,1 Def,1 Dam)
Has asthma. Has had it all his life. It's not stopped him once, even though he's an orc prone to fighting whomever he can. Unlike many of his kind, he is introspective, and makes a constant effort to improve himself. He took up sickles as his choice of weapon, and he makes excellent use of them. Has minor skill with blood magic.
Quality: Athsmatic
Skills: Combat Sickles, Blood Magic, Pragmatic Combat
Equipment: Sickle [+1 Dam,-2 Hit], Leather Armor [+0 Def], 3xVial of Blood (personal item)
- Sollux:
- Sollux Captor
Human, Adaptable

Dragonkin, Proud
- Nepeta:
- Nepeta Leijon

- Aradia:
- Aradia Megido
Construct/Ghost, Mechanical, Haunting
- Drizzt Do'Urden:
- Drizzt Do'Urden
Elf, Loves Nature
(5 HP,1 Def,0 Dam)
One of two members of an evil race who isn't actually evil, and in fact he's basically a wood elf with dark skin, but he uses dual scimitars 'cause dark elves use those, and he's the most awesome character evar! I mean, he's from a noble family, has awesome magic skills, and nobody can pronounce his name except the author!
Okay, to be fair, he was an interesting and original character when he was first made. The sheer number of imitators removed any novelty he might have had, and left him as little more than a bad mary sue, without much for redeeming value.
Skills: Dual Scimitars, Acrobatics, Levitation, Globe of Darkness, Fairy Fire
Equipment: 2xDrow Scimitars[+0 Dam],Piwafwi(Leather)[+0 Def]
- Mr.Welch:
- Mr. Welch
Goblin, Mischievous
(5 HP,1 Def,2 Dam)
Mr. Welch is a gob who decided he wants to make everyone's lives just a little more interesting. Has a criminal record covering some 1,987 acts, as of present writing, and witnesses generally report finding his actions "Horrible and absolutely hilarious." The reward for his capture is 1,000 Gp.
Quailty: Loony
Skills: Overkill, Dancing Through Loopholes, Refuge in Audacity
Equipment: Longsword [+1 Dam], Leather Armor [+0]
